At right is the "Great Falls of the Catawba" , now dry due to the 1907 diversion, which DukeEnergy will release water through for recreational paddlers as part of Duke's Hydroelectric Relicensing Agreement, as required by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission. The town of Great Falls is eager for this to boost its tourism economy.
